Cinderella
Transformation.
Full from ugly to beautiful.
A girl in rags becomes transformed into someone successful.
Successful? Visible, she fulfils her dream of breaking free of drudgery and is noticed by the world (and the woodland creatures).
Gives her confidence and power to move onto the next stage in her life, adulthood. The transition from child to adult.
She was being trapped and suppressed by her father and her older sisters, but now she’s free to move forward with her life, to pursue her own aims and ambitions.
Liberation from a negative family environment, freedom to create her own world with her own family.
Her best friend assists her.
Fairy Godmother, an older woman comes in and says you don’t have to live like this anymore, you can break free of this, and empowers her to do so. It has to be magical. That’s the joy of that story, the freedom to dream. If it’s not magical then it just becomes very ordinary.
If it were ordinary, she could still break free. It would be an older woman saying to her, you don’t have to stay trapped within the confines of this sibling relationship, you can escape it.
The letting go and leaving behind of negative energies.
Angry and frustrated - it’s been rubbish again.
It’s a duet.
It’s the point in childhood where you’re at school and you think everyone else lives the same life until you go to secondary school and you realise everyone is different.
There are other ways to be.
Cinderella is going to decide to leave during this song.
Words that are emphasised:
breaking free
The transition from child to adult.
Liberation from a negative family environment
letting go and leaving behind
There are other ways to be.
Cinderella is going to decide to leave during this song.
